If you receive leads through an eLead integration, there are standard fields on the eLead object that can be mapped to. See also: eLead Field Mapping Guide to review the standard eLead fields.
When an eLead automatically converts and creates a Prospect and Lead Source record, it will push the information in these standard fields to the corresponding fields on the Prospect and Lead Source record.
However, you may wish to capture additional information on the eLead record, and have this information map to custom fields on the Prospect and/or Lead Source record.
To do this, add a field to the eLead and create the SAME field on the Prospect or Lead Source (same name, same API name, same field type) that information will populate on the appropriate record when the eLead converts.
1. Create new Custom Field on the eLead Object
- Navigate to Setup > App Setup > Create > Objects
- On the Custom Objects page, scroll down and select the 'eLead' object
- On the Custom Object: eLead page, scroll down and click the 'New' button on the Custom Fields and Relationships section
- Create your new field. For a more detailed guide on this step, please see How To - Create a New Field
- Add your new field to a field set on the eLead object, then run First Time Setup. For a more detailed guide on this step, please see Create Fields & Add to a Field Set
2. Create Duplicate New Custom Field on Prospect/Lead Source Object
- Navigate to Setup > App Setup > Create > Objects
- On the Custom Objects page, scroll down and select either the 'Lead Source' or 'Prospect' object, depending on where you want the data to map to when the eLead converts.
- On the Custom Object: Lead Source or Prospect page, scroll down and click the 'New' button on the Custom Fields and Relationships section
- Create your new field. This should be an exact duplicate of the custom field created on the eLead: same name, same API name, same field type. For a more detailed guide on this step, please see How To - Create a New Field
- Add your new field to a field set on the object, then run First Time Setup. For a more detailed guide on this step, please see Create Fields & Add to a Field Set
3. Notify your Lead Provider to map to the new eLead field
- Provide the field label/name of your new field to your lead provider, as well as any information about what data should populate this new field when they send over eleads.
