Overview
improveit 360 now supports customers who are ready to use Salesforce Lightning Experience.
As part of this upgrade, we have reviewed and updated the improveit 360 managed package to ensure that its existing functionality can operate within the Salesforce Lightning Experience, including improveit 360 Visualforce pages, navigation, buttons, and other package functionality.
This allows your organization to take advantage of the modern Salesforce Lightning Experience while continuing to use the improveit 360 functionality your teams rely on today.
Important: This upgrade provides Lightning Experience compatibility for improveit 360. Some improveit 360 functionality continues to use Visualforce pages and may retain its existing user interface when accessed from Lightning Experience.
Why Move to Lightning Experience?
Lightning Experience is Salesforce's modern user experience and the platform where Salesforce continues to deliver its current user experience and productivity capabilities.
Moving your users to Lightning Experience provides access to capabilities such as:
- A modern Salesforce user interface and navigation experience.
- Lightning apps and the Lightning App Launcher.
- Customizable Lightning record pages and home pages.
- Improved productivity features available within Lightning Experience.
- Access to Salesforce functionality and innovations designed specifically for the Lightning platform.
- The ability to use improveit 360 alongside other Lightning-enabled Salesforce applications and functionality.
Organizations can also manage Lightning Experience access by user, allowing administrators to control their rollout.
What's Included in the improveit 360 Upgrade?
The updated improveit 360 managed package includes changes designed to allow existing improveit 360 functionality to operate when users are working in Salesforce Lightning Experience.
The upgrade also includes a new permission set:
improveit 360 Lightning
This permission set contains the improveit 360 permissions required for the Lightning-enabled experience.
However, there is one additional Salesforce permission that your Salesforce administrator must configure before users can access Lightning Experience.
Administrator Action Required
Because the Salesforce Lightning Experience User system permission must be configured within your Salesforce organization, your administrator must:
- Clone the Lightning Experience Access permission set.
- Add the Salesforce Lightning Experience User system permission to the cloned permission set.
- Assign the cloned permission set to the appropriate improveit 360 users.
The following sections walk through this process.
Step 1: Clone the Lightning Experience Access Permission Set
A Salesforce administrator should complete these steps after installing or upgrading the improveit 360 managed package.
- Log in to Salesforce as an administrator.
- Click Setup.
- In Quick Find, enter Permission Sets.
- Select Permission Sets.
- Locate and open the Lightning Experience Access permission set installed with the improveit 360 package.
- Click Clone.
-
Enter a name for your organization's cloned permission set. For example:
Lightning Experience Access - Customer
- Save the new permission set.
Cloning preserves the permissions provided by the Lightning Experience Access permission set while creating a permission set that your Salesforce administrator can manage within your organization.
Important: Assign users the cloned permission set rather than the packaged Lightning Experience Access permission set after completing the configuration below.
Step 2: Enable the Lightning Experience User Permission
Next, add the Salesforce permission that allows users to access Lightning Experience.
From your newly cloned permission set:
- Open System Permissions.
- Click Edit.
- Locate Lightning Experience User.
- Select the Lightning Experience User permission.
- Click Save.
Your cloned permission set now combines the improveit 360 permissions required for the Lightning experience with the Salesforce permission that allows the user to access Lightning Experience.
Already Using Lightning Experience?
Some users may already have the Lightning Experience User permission through their Salesforce profile or another permission set.
Salesforce enables this permission by default for standard profiles, and some custom profiles may also already include it.
We still recommend that your Salesforce administrator review the configuration and confirm that each intended improveit 360 Lightning user has the appropriate access before rollout.
Step 3: Assign the Cloned Permission Set to Users
After configuring the cloned permission set, assign it to the improveit 360 users who will be working in Lightning Experience.
- From Setup, enter Permission Sets in Quick Find.
- Select Permission Sets.
- Open your cloned improveit 360 Lightning permission set.
- Click Manage Assignments.
- Click Add Assignments.
- Select the users who should use improveit 360 within Lightning Experience.
- Click Assign.
- Click Done.
The selected users now have the permissions contained in your cloned improveit 360 Lightning permission set.
Step 4: Validate the User Experience
Before rolling out Lightning Experience broadly, we recommend testing the experience with a small group of improveit 360 users.
Have your test users sign in and confirm that they can:
- Access Salesforce Lightning Experience.
- Access the appropriate improveit 360 application, tabs, and records.
- Open and interact with improveit 360 pages.
- Perform their common improveit 360 workflows.
- Use the improveit 360 buttons and actions required for their roles.
- Access the Salesforce objects and records required for their normal responsibilities.
After validation is complete, the cloned permission set can be assigned to additional users according to your organization's rollout plan.
What Will improveit 360 Look Like in Lightning Experience?
Customers should be aware that enabling Lightning Experience does not mean that every improveit 360 screen has been rebuilt as a Lightning page.
Improveit 360 has an established set of managed-package functionality, including Visualforce-based pages. Where appropriate, these existing pages continue to be used within Lightning Experience.
As a result, users may encounter improveit 360 pages that retain a familiar appearance while the surrounding Salesforce navigation and experience use the Lightning interface.
This is expected behavior.
Our focus for this upgrade has been to enable customers to continue using their existing improveit 360 functionality while taking advantage of Salesforce Lightning Experience, without requiring customers to wait for a complete redesign of the improveit 360 application.
Can Users Still Switch Between Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic?
Salesforce provides organizations with controls for managing whether users can access Salesforce Classic.
Users who have the Lightning Experience User permission can generally access Lightning Experience, and Salesforce administrators can further configure whether users are permitted to switch between Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic.
Your Salesforce administrator should determine the appropriate configuration based on your organization's Salesforce rollout strategy.
Recommended Rollout Approach
We recommend introducing improveit 360 in Lightning Experience in phases:
- Upgrade improveit 360 to the release that includes Lightning Experience support.
- Clone and configure the improveit 360 Lightning permission set.
- Select a pilot group of improveit 360 users.
- Assign the cloned permission set to those users.
- Validate common business processes in Lightning Experience.
- Address any organization-specific customizations that may affect the experience.
- Expand the rollout to additional users.
Keep in mind that your Salesforce organization may contain customizations outside of the improveit 360 managed package, such as custom Visualforce pages, buttons, links, JavaScript, integrations, or other applications. Your Salesforce administrator should evaluate these components separately when planning your organization's overall transition to Lightning Experience.
